MELIID 5000mAh MagSafe Powerbank Review – Ultra Slim But Wireless Charging Too Slow

Share

Was in Shenzhen Hua Qiang Bei last June for work trip. Wandering around Saige Plaza (that massive electronics market), found this MELIID 5000mAh MagSafe powerbank at some random stall. Guy quoted RMB 100 (about SGD $20).

Looked sketchy but for $20, thought “cant hurt to try.” Been using it for 6 months now (June – December 2025). Main use: charging my Apple Watch Ultra during travel cause the watch dies fast when I’m shooting vlogs and tracking workouts all day.

The ultra slim design is legit impressive – thin as 3 credit cards stacked. But the 5W wireless charging is painfully slow. Takes 1-1.5 hours just for 0-50%. Here’s my honest take after 6 months of real testing.

Why I Bought This Powerbank

So here’s the thing. I shoot alot of travel vlogs and content when I’m on trips. Singapore to China, Japan, Taiwan – constantly creating content.

My Apple Watch Ultra tracks everything – workouts at the gym (Anytime Fitness regular here), steps during city walks, heart rate when hiking. Normal day the watch lasts about 1.5 days easy.

But on travel days? Dead by evening. When I’m shooting vlogs around Harajuku, tracking 20,000+ steps walking around Shinjuku, using GPS navigation constantly – the battery just drains.

On my Osaka/Tokyo trip in December, the watch was hitting 20% by 6pm. Needed something to charge it overnight at the hotel without carrying bulky powerbank.

Most powerbanks are thick. Like 12-15mm+. Takes up space in my already packed 40L backpack (got camera gear, clothes, my Achedaway Cupper for neck pain relief, cables, etc).

When I saw this MELIID at Hua Qiang Bei in June, the ultra slim design caught my eye. The vendor showed me how thin it was – literally thickness of 3 credit cards. Could slip into any pocket.

RMB 100 is like SGD $20. Even if it sucked, not huge loss. Figured worth trying. Bought it, tested it for 6 months across 4 trips. Here’s what I found.

What Is MELIID 5000mAh Powerbank?

MELIID is one of those Shenzhen electronics market brands. Not sold in Singapore retail (checked Challenger, Courts – not there). Mainly find them in China electronics markets like Hua Qiang Bei.

This 5000mAh model is MagSafe-compatible wireless powerbank with built-in LED percentage display. The main selling point is the ultra slim profile – about 2.3mm thick.

What’s In The Box

  • MELIID 5000mAh powerbank
  • USB-C to USB-C cable (short 30cm cable)
  • User manual (Chinese only, no English)

No fancy packaging. Basic cardboard box with foam insert. Very typical China electronics market style – functional, no frills.

How I Tested This – 6 Months Real Usage

Bought this June 2025 in Shenzhen. Been using it until now (December 2025). That’s 6 months of actual testing, not just “tried it for a week” review.

My testing methodology:

  • Trips tested: 4 trips total (2x China, 1x Osaka/Tokyo Japan, 1x Taiwan)
  • Usage pattern: Charge Apple Watch Ultra overnight, 3-4 nights per week during trips
  • Devices charged: Mainly Apple Watch Ultra (542mAh battery), occasionally iPhone 16 Pro
  • Charging speed tracked: Timed with phone timer app multiple times
  • Battery cycles: Approximately 70-80 full powerbank charge cycles over 6 months
  • Temperature testing: Used in China summer heat (35°C+) and Japan winter cold (5-10°C)

This isn’t casual testing. I actually NEED this cause my Apple Watch Ultra dies on heavy travel days. So I tracked everything carefully.

Total Apple Watch charges over 6 months: Approximately 200+ charges (3-4 nights per week × 24 weeks)

Design – Ultra Slim Is No Joke

First thing you notice when holding this: it’s crazy thin. Like genuinely ultra slim, not marketing BS.

Measured it myself – about 2.3mm thick. That’s literally same thickness as 3 credit cards stacked together. Can slip into wallet pocket, small bag compartment, jacket inner pocket.

Thickness Comparison

PowerbankThicknessWeightCapacity
MELIID 5000mAh2.3mm~115g5000mAh
Xiaomi Magnetic 50008.9mm~145g5000mAh

UGREEN Mini 5000mAh~12mm~105g5000mAh
Generic 5000mAh12-15mm120-150g5000mAh

So the MELIID is genuinely the thinnest. Not by small margin – it’s like 4x thinner than Xiaomi, almost 5x thinner than generic powerbanks.

Build Quality

Aluminum alloy body with matte gray finish. Feels solid, not cheap plastic. After 6 months in my backpack with camera gear and other stuff, still looks decent. Few minor scratches on back but nothing major.

The edges are smooth, rounded corners. Wont scratch your phone or other items. The LED display is recessed slightly into the body – shows battery percentage in bright blue digits.

Weight & Portability

At around 115g (weighed it on kitchen scale), it’s medium weight for 5000mAh capacity. Not super light, but not heavy either.

Weight comparison:

  • MELIID 5000mAh: ~115g
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 199g
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 227g
  • Apple Watch Ultra 2: 61.4g
  • 3 credit cards: ~15g

So it’s lighter than any iPhone. When I attach it to phone via MagSafe, adds some weight but phone doesn’t feel front-heavy or unbalanced.

MagSafe Magnet Strength – Surprisingly Strong

The magnets are really strong. Like actually proper MagSafe strength, not fake magnetic that barely holds.

Snaps onto my iPhone 16 Pro with solid satisfying click. Once attached, stays put even when I shake the phone.

Magnet Strength Test Results

Did multiple tests over 6 months:

  • Shake test: Hold phone with powerbank attached, shake aggressively. Result: Powerbank stays stuck, doesn’t slide or fall (Passed ✓)
  • Gravity test: Attach powerbank to phone, hold phone vertically, let powerbank hang. Result: Holds for 30+ seconds without slipping (Passed ✓)
  • Case compatibility: Tested with thin clear case (0.8mm). Still attaches securely (Passed ✓)
  • Thick case test: Tried with Spigen Tough Armor case (3mm thick). Magnet much weaker, falls off easily (Failed ✗)

So for thin cases or no case, the magnet is excellent. For thick cases with card holders or kickstands, it struggles.

Compared to official Apple MagSafe Battery Pack I tried at Apple Store – the MELIID magnet feels about 80-85% as strong. Good enough for $20 China product.

Charging Apple Watch Ultra – Real World Testing

This is my main use case. Charging Apple Watch Ultra overnight during travel.

Apple Watch Ultra has 542mAh battery. The MELIID has 5000mAh capacity. Math says should get about 9 charges (5000 ÷ 542 = 9.2).

Reality? I get 3 full charges.

Apple Watch Charging Test Results

Test DateWatch BatteryCharging TimeResult
June 15 (Shenzhen)12% → 100%58 minutes1st charge ✓

June 17 (Shenzhen)25% → 100%47 minutes3rd charge ✓
June 1830% → 68%Powerbank diedPartial charge ✗

So consistently get 3 full charges plus partial 4th charge. For my Japan trip in December, this meant:

  • Night 1: Charge watch from 15% → 100%
  • Night 2: Charge watch from 22% → 100%
  • Night 3: Charge watch from 18% → 100%
  • Night 4: Need recharge powerbank

Perfect for 3-4 day trips. For my 5-day Osaka/Tokyo trip, I recharged the powerbank once at the APA Hotel.

Why Only 3 Charges? The Math

ComponentCapacityNotes
MELIID rated capacity5000mAhAt 3.7V nominal
Usable capacity~3500mAh~70% efficiency typical for wireless
Apple Watch Ultra542mAh × 31626mAh total for 3 charges
Actual efficiency1626 ÷ 5000~32% (lower than expected)

The 32% efficiency is low. Wireless charging has energy loss, but usually you get 60-70% efficiency. For watch charging specifically, seems worse.

Possible reasons:

  • Watch wireless charging is less efficient than phone
  • 5W slow charging generates more heat = more loss
  • Multiple conversion steps (battery → wireless coil → watch coil → watch battery)

Still, 3 charges is good enough for my needs. Most trips are 3-5 days, so one powerbank charge lasts me through.

The Slow Wireless Charging Problem

Here’s the biggest issue: 5W wireless charging is painfully slow.

Timed it multiple times with timer app. Consistently takes 1-1.5 hours just to charge phone from 0% to 50%. For full charge, looking at 2.5-3 hours.

Wireless Charging Speed – Real Measurements

USB-C Wired 20W20W~23 mins~1 hr 28 mins⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fast
USB-C Fast 30W+30W+~15 mins~1 hr⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Fast

Real world impact on my Osaka/Tokyo trip:

Day 3 in Tokyo. Phone at 18% after full day shooting around Harajuku. Need quick charge before going to Shibuya for dinner at 6:30pm. Current time: 5:45pm.

If I use MELIID wireless: Phone gets to ~45% by 6:30pm. Not ideal but workable.

If I had 20W wired: Phone would be at 80%+ by 6:30pm. Much better.

So the 5W wireless is only good when you have TIME. Overnight charging, office desk charging, slow background charging while watching videos. Not good for urgent top-ups.

Wired Charging – Slightly Better But Still Slow

The MELIID has USB-C port for wired output. Charges slightly faster than wireless but still not impressive.

Estimates around 10W output via wired (didn’t have proper USB power meter to test exactly). So charges phone maybe 1.5x faster than 5W wireless.

Wired charging test (rough timing):

  • iPhone 16 Pro 0-50%: Approximately 50-55 minutes (vs 72 mins wireless)
  • iPhone 16 Pro 0-100%: Approximately 2 hours 15 mins (vs 2 hrs 47 mins wireless)

So yeah, wired is faster. But honestly, if I need wired charging I’d use my UGREEN 22.5W powerbank instead. The MELIID wired is just mediocre.

The main selling point is the ultra slim MagSafe wireless for Apple Watch charging. The wired capability is just bonus feature.

Battery Life & Capacity – 5000mAh Limitations

5000mAh is on the smaller side for powerbanks. That’s the trade-off for 2.3mm ultra slim design.

How Many Device Charges – Real Testing

DeviceBattery SizeTheoreticalActual (Tested)Efficiency
Apple Watch Ultra542mAh9.2 charges3 full charges~32%
iPhone 16 Pro3582mAh1.4 charges0.7 charges (68%)~48%
iPhone 16 Pro Max4685mAh1.1 charges~0.5 charges (52%)~47%
AirPods Pro~500mAh10 chargesNot tested

So realistically with 5000mAh MELIID:

  • Half charge for iPhone Pro Max (50-55%)
  • 70% charge for iPhone Pro (65-70%)
  • 3 full charges for Apple Watch Ultra (tested)
  • Probably 3-4 charges for earbuds (didn’t test)

Not enough for power users who drain phone 2-3 times per day. But perfect for light users or wearable charging like my Apple Watch use case.

LED Display – Actually Useful

The LED display shows exact battery percentage in bright blue digits. Very clear, easy to read even in bright sunlight.

Unlike powerbanks with just 4 LED dots (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%), this shows precise percentage like 67%, 42%, 18%. So you know exactly how much juice left.

Display behavior:

  • Press side button: Display lights up for 10 seconds
  • Start charging: Display turns on automatically
  • While charging: Display stays on, shows decreasing percentage
  • Fully charged device: Display blinks 3x then turns off

After 6 months, the LED display still works perfectly. No dimming, no dead pixels. Quality is decent for $20 product.

Singapore Availability – Not Easy To Find

I bought this at Shenzhen Hua Qiang Bei Saige Plaza in June for RMB 100 (SGD $20).

Tried finding MELIID in Singapore – checked Challenger (Bugis, Funan), Courts (Tampines, Nex), Takashimaya electronics. Not there. Brand isn’t distributed in Singapore retail.

Where To Buy MELIID in Singapore

OptionPriceShipping TimeWarrantyMy Take
Shenzhen Direct~SGD $20N/A (buy in person)NoneBest price if traveling to China

Lazada (China sellers)SGD $28-382-4 weeksMinimalSimilar to Shopee

So if you want this exact MELIID model, easiest is buy when traveling to Shenzhen/China. Or order from Shopee/Lazada and wait 2-3 weeks.

But honestly? At SGD $30-35 after shipping, just buy alternatives available locally in Singapore.

Better Alternatives in Singapore

*Shenzhen price, not including shipping to Singapore

My honest recommendation:

If you’re going Shenzhen/China for travel – grab the MELIID for $20. At that price it’s great value despite slow charging.

If buying from Singapore with shipping – just get Xiaomi Magnetic Power Bank 5000mAh from Mi Store for $39. You get:

  • 15W wireless (3x faster than MELIID’s 5W)
  • Buy today, use today (no 2-week shipping wait)
  • Local warranty from Mi Store
  • Only $19 more than MELIID with shipping

Yeah it’s thicker (8.9mm vs 2.3mm) but the 3x faster charging is worth it.

MELIID vs Xiaomi vs Anker – Head to Head

Since I own the MELIID and tried Xiaomi at Mi Store, here’s direct comparison:

Winner by category:

  • Thinnest: MELIID (2.3mm) – no contest
  • Fastest charging: Xiaomi (15W) – 3x faster than MELIID
  • Best value: Xiaomi ($39 with 15W fast charging + warranty)
  • Best quality/warranty: Anker (18 months, established brand)
  • Cheapest: MELIID ($20 but must buy in China)

My personal choice for different needs:

  • Ultra minimalist packing, don’t care about speed → MELIID
  • Balanced (thin enough + fast charging + local warranty) → Xiaomi
  • Want best quality, willing to pay premium → Anker
  • Budget conscious, okay with generic → Shopee generic $18-25

For me, I keep using the MELIID cause I already have it and it works for my Apple Watch charging use case. But if I were buying NEW today in Singapore, I’d get the Xiaomi for $39.

Who Should Buy This Powerbank?

Get the MELIID if:

  • You’re traveling to Shenzhen/China and can buy at $20 (great value)
  • You mainly charge wearables (Apple Watch, earbuds) not phones
  • You need absolute thinnest powerbank possible (2.3mm)
  • You charge overnight (slow 5W speed doesn’t matter)
  • You want strong MagSafe magnets on budget
  • You like LED percentage display
  • You’re okay with no warranty (it’s $20)

Skip the MELIID if:

  • You need fast wireless charging (5W too slow)
  • You’re buying from Singapore with shipping fees (get Xiaomi instead at $39)
  • You drain phone multiple times per day (5000mAh not enough)
  • You need urgent phone top-ups regularly
  • You want established brand with local warranty
  • You need charge iPhone fast (takes 2hr 47min for 0-100%)

Better alternatives if:

  • You need faster charging → Get Xiaomi Magnetic 5K ($39, 15W wireless)
  • You want best quality → Get Anker MagGo 5K Slim ($79, 18-month warranty)
  • You need more capacity → Get 10000mAh MagSafe powerbank (~$50-70)
  • You’re budget constrained → Get generic Shopee MagSafe 5K ($18-25, but quality varies)

Common Questions (FAQ)

How long does the MELIID battery last per charge?

Depends what you’re charging. For me:

  • Apple Watch Ultra: 3 full charges (0-100%) tested over 6 months
  • iPhone 16 Pro: About 0.7 charges (gets phone to 68-70%)
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: About 0.5 charges (gets phone to 50-55%)

For my travel use (charging Apple Watch 3-4 nights), one powerbank charge lasts me 3-4 days. Perfect for weekend trips or 5-day trip with one mid-trip recharge.

Is 5W wireless charging really that slow?

Yeah, it’s genuinely slow. Timed it multiple times:

  • iPhone 16 Pro 0-50%: 1 hour 12 minutes
  • iPhone 16 Pro 0-100%: 2 hours 47 minutes
  • Apple Watch Ultra 0-100%: 58 minutes

Compare that to 20W wired charging which does iPhone 0-50% in 23 minutes. The wireless is like 3x slower.

So don’t expect quick top-ups. This is for overnight charging or slow background charging while you do other stuff.

Does it work with iPhone cases?

Depends on case thickness. Tested with:

  • Thin clear case (0.8mm): Works perfectly, magnet still strong ✓
  • Apple silicone case (~1.5mm): Works well, slightly weaker magnet but holds ✓
  • Spigen Tough Armor (3mm): Barely holds, falls off easily ✗
  • Cases with card holders: Doesn’t work, too thick ✗

General rule: If case is thinner than 2mm, should work fine. Thicker than that, magnet struggles.

How does it compare to Xiaomi Magnetic Power Bank?

I own MELIID, tried Xiaomi at Mi Store. Quick comparison:

MELIID wins:

  • Way thinner (2.3mm vs 8.9mm)
  • Cheaper ($20 vs $39)

Xiaomi wins:

  • 3x faster charging (15W vs 5W)
  • Available in Singapore with warranty
  • Better wired charging (20W vs 10W)

My take: If buying in Shenzhen at $20, MELIID is great value. If buying in Singapore, Xiaomi is better choice – only $19 more but way faster charging plus local warranty.

Is it worth SGD $20?

If you buy in Shenzhen at $20 – absolutely yes. Even with slow 5W charging, the ultra slim design and strong magnets make it worth $20.

If you’re paying $30-35 after Shopee/Lazada shipping to Singapore – probably not. At that price just get Xiaomi for $39 instead. The extra $9 gets you 3x faster charging and local warranty.

For me at $20, it’s perfect for my Apple Watch charging needs. But I wouldnt pay $35 for it.

Where to buy in Singapore?

MELIID isn’t sold in Singapore retail. Your options:

  • Best option: Buy when traveling to Shenzhen/China (RMB 100 = ~$20)
  • Online: Shopee/Lazada from China sellers ($25-35 + 2-3 week shipping)
  • Alternative: Just buy Xiaomi Magnetic 5K at Mi Store Singapore ($39, available today)

I checked Challenger, Courts, Takashimaya electronics – none carry MELIID brand.

What’s the warranty like?

If you buy from Shenzhen electronics market – basically no warranty. That’s the trade-off for $20 China price.

If you buy from Shopee/Lazada – you get Shopee Guarantee (can return if defective on arrival) but no real manufacturer warranty.

I’ve used mine for 6 months (June-Dec 2025) with no issues. But if it breaks tomorrow, I cant get replacement or repair. That’s the $20 risk.

If warranty matters to you, buy Xiaomi ($39, 1 year warranty) or Anker ($79, 18 months warranty) instead.

How thick is “ultra slim” really?

Measured it myself – approximately 2.3mm thick. That’s literally:

  • Same as 3 credit cards stacked
  • About same as 2 iPhone cases
  • Thinner than most phone cases (which are 3-5mm)

Can slip into wallet pocket, thin jacket pocket, small bag compartment. After 6 months carrying it daily, I barely notice it’s there.

Compare to other slim powerbanks:

  • Xiaomi Slim: 8.9mm (almost 4x thicker)
  • Anker Slim: ~10mm (4.3x thicker)
  • Regular powerbanks: 12-15mm (5-6x thicker)

So “ultra slim” isn’t marketing BS – it’s genuinely the thinnest MagSafe powerbank I’ve seen or tested.

Can I charge it while charging my phone?

Yes, it has pass-through charging. You can:

  • Plug USB-C cable into MELIID
  • Attach iPhone via MagSafe
  • Both charge simultaneously

But honestly it’s slow (5W wireless) so I usually just charge phone directly with cable when I have wall outlet available. Use the MELIID wireless for overnight watch charging or when no cable access.

Final Verdict – 3.5/5 Stars

After 6 months using the MELIID 5000mAh across 4 trips (2x China, 1x Japan Osaka/Tokyo, 1x Taiwan), here’s my honest take.

What I love:

  • Ultra slim 2.3mm design – thinnest powerbank I own, barely notice it in backpack
  • Strong MagSafe magnets – holds phone securely, doesn’t fall off when shaking
  • 3 full Apple Watch Ultra charges per powerbank charge – perfect for 3-4 day trips
  • LED percentage display – shows exact % not just dots, still works perfectly after 6 months
  • Solid aluminum build – survived 6 months in my backpack with camera gear, still looks decent
  • Crazy cheap at SGD $20 from Shenzhen – best value if buying there
  • Works in both summer heat (35°C China) and winter cold (5-10°C Japan)

What could be better:

  • 5W wireless too slow – takes 1 hr 12 mins just for iPhone 0-50%, not good for urgent top-ups
  • 5000mAh capacity is small – only gets iPhone Pro to 68%, Pro Max to 50%
  • Hard to find in Singapore retail – have to buy from China or wait 2-3 weeks Shopee shipping
  • Wired charging also mediocre (~10W) – not much faster than wireless
  • No warranty from Shenzhen market purchase – if it breaks, cant get replacement
  • Not compatible with thick phone cases (3mm+) – magnet too weak through thick cases

Rating: 3.5/5

The missing 1.5 stars is mainly the 5W slow wireless charging. If they bumped it to 10W or 15W wireless (like Xiaomi) while keeping the 2.3mm slim design, this would easily be 4.5/5 or 5/5.

The 5000mAh capacity is also limiting for phone charging, but I understand that’s the physics trade-off for ultra slim design.

Is it worth SGD $20? If buying in Shenzhen – absolutely yes. For that price, even with slow charging, the ultra slim design and strong magnets make it great value. It’s perfect for my Apple Watch Ultra charging use case during travel.

Is it worth $30-35 with Singapore shipping? Probably not. At that price, I’d recommend getting Xiaomi Magnetic Power Bank 5000mAh from Mi Store Singapore for $39 instead. Only $9 more but you get:

  • 15W wireless (3x faster charging)
  • 20W wired output
  • 1-year local warranty
  • Buy today, use today (no shipping wait)

Yeah it’s thicker (8.9mm vs 2.3mm) but the faster charging is worth the extra thickness for most people.

My use case: I keep using the MELIID cause it works perfectly for charging Apple Watch Ultra overnight during my trips. The ultra slim design means I barely notice it in my 40L backpack alongside camera gear and clothes. 3 watch charges lasts me 3-4 days which covers most weekend trips.

But for phone charging, I use my UGREEN 22.5W powerbank instead. The 5W wireless is just too slow for emergency phone top-ups.

So it’s niche product. Great for specific use case (wearable charging overnight, ultra portable backup). Not great as your main/only powerbank if you need charge phones regularly.
